A FEW THOUGHTS:
[1] I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord,
urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling
to which you have been called,
[2] with all humility and gentleness, with patience,
bearing with one another in love,
[3] eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.
Ephesians 4:1–3
I had a conversation with an Elder once about singing. He could sing. He would play the guitar and sing at particular times of the year like Christmas. He told me one of the things he learned is that you hear yourself differently than others. This difference is partly because the sound originates in you, while others listen to your voice.
This difference can be real in conversations and interactions as well. You can hear yourself speaking and see yourself acting in a way very different from what others hear and see. It is similar to the idea of singing. Your voice originates inside of you, so do your words and actions.
You may have a clear motive that is good, yet your words and actions can come across hurtful. This unintentional hurt is because you are being insensitive to what you are doing, or it can also be the way people chose to receive it. Often, it is a combination of both.
The Apostle Paul teaches how we can avoid this as Christians. We walk together as fellow sinners who struggle. We need to interact with humility, gentleness, patience, love, and unity. This reality means trying your hardest to communicate and act towards people in a way that shows your love. It also means that we receive and see other's words and actions in love as well. So speak and act, not only knowing what you mean but also understanding and seeing how other people receive what you say and do.
THIS SUNDAY
Sunday AM - Daniel 2:31-45
Daniel reveals the King's dream and interprets it. This passage teaches us that the kings, rulers, and leaders of this world, though they are powerful, are only temporary and eventually become dust. But there is a kingdom coming that shall have no end. "'
Sunday PM - 2 Corinthians 3:1-6
Paul continues to write to the church at Corinth, addressing them carefully to open up old wounds and bring healing and reconciliation. He speaks of confidence in Christ, who had called him to be a minister of the new covenant. Paul is continuing to pull the church at Corinth towards Christ and not observe the ceremonial law that the false teachers were encouraging.
